Birthday Cake Martini 1.5 ounces vanilla vodka 1.5 ounces cranberry juice 1/2 ounce champagne Rim glass with Sprinkles (cake frosting helps to make them stick). Today we have the privilege of talking to one of the best make-up artists, Coldaseyce Reign. Join us as we talk to this creative expert!

Q. Please give us a brief history of how you got in this industry.

My mother was a licensed stylist and had a salon at home. I also had 2 aunts who were stylist also. So I've been exposed to the business all my life. Lol! My mother was diagnosed with diabetes in 1972, by the time I became a teenager she was starting to loose her sight. Sunday mornings before church my mother would say "Come here girl and put this stuff on my eyes for me. Ya know I can't see well." And that's how I got started doing make up. I was about 14 at the time. By the time I got 16 and had my 1st real job , I was introduced to Mary Kay. Bought my 1st cleansing line and makeup! Went into the USAF when I graduate. Did hair while I was in. I was stationed is some really isolated bases so everyone was always excited to find a black stylist. In 2000 I finally decided to become a licensed stylist. In 2006 I moved to Atlanta and that’s when makeup became my total passion. I became a Cosmetic Counter Manger for Fashion Fair at Dillards. Having access to all the cosmetics lines in the department stores took me to a whole different level!

Q. What is the best part of your job?

Makeup isn’t just about “Look how good I look!” It actually has a healing element. I was also a Sale Representative for DermaBlend, which is a product that has full cover for major scaring, birthmarks, and tattoos. It felt soo good when men & women left my chair feeling like a million bucks after I covered a scare or birthmark. Just doing basic makeup and seeing people faces light up was soo gratifying!

Q: How would you describe your overall style of make up artistry?

I don’t really know how to describe my style of makeup artistry. I specialize in customizing a personal look for my customers. Everyone has their own personal style and comfort zone. As for photonshoots, fashion & hair shows….The sky is the limit!! I’m a rock them bold colors & glitter all day long!

Q: What do you like most about Weddings?

Weddings are such a special day. Taking that special time to customize a look for the bride is such a good feeling. It makes my heart feel soo good.

Umm Delish!!! Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries

Ingredients:

-1 lb large strawberries

-8 oz. cream cheese, softened (can use 1/3 less fat)

-3-4 tbsp powdered sugar (4 tbsp for a sweeter filling)

-1 tsp vanilla extract

-graham cracker crumbs

Directions:

1. Rinse strawberries and cut around the top of the strawberry. Remove the top and clean out with a paring knife, if necessary (some may already be hollow inside). Prep all strawberries and set aside.

2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Add cream cheese mix to a piping bag or ziploc with the corner snipped off. Fill strawberries with cheesecake mixture. Once strawberries are filled, dip the top in graham cracker crumbs. If not serving immediately, refrigerate until serving.

Tell us more about you and your business:

I started in Pure Romance in 2006 as a part time independent consultant. At that time I was full time Real Estate Broker raising a teenage daughter and going through a divorce. I was looking for a way to make a little extra money to go along with my real estate commissions and Pure Romance provided that for me. Along the way I went on to work a regular paying J-O-B (just over broke) for a few years as I continued with my Pure Romance business. One day it dawned on me "I'm making 4 times more per hour in Pure Romance than I am at my J-O-B". So I quit my regular paying job and took the leap to become a full time Pure Romance Consultant. It was the best move I could've ever made! Being able to be flexible with my schedule, coupled with the opportunity to empower so many women is a wonderful thing!

How does your business relate to Brides-to-Be?

I know that planning a wedding can be stressful! I've been in their shoes! Pure Romance by Michelle Wyatt Coonen gives the bride to be a chance to shine before the wedding. My bachlorette parties are all about "her". Everything is educational and fun! From time to time, I come across brides who just want to have a good time with the entire bridal party, but not the typical bachlorette party. Again, it's really all about "her" and the needs she has to bond with her bridal party, as well as let off a little of the stress that has built up along the way.

You are very creative and fun, what are some ideas that brides can look forward to when booking you?

It's totally FREE to book a party with me. It's been a popular question lately "How much do you charge to do a bachlorette party?". I do not charge for the party! I get paid by the amount of sales at the party! For the bachelorette I provide 15% of the party sales to go towards the purchases for the bachlorette. Think of it this way, if the party generates $500 in sales, the bachlorette has $75 to spend on herself!

Brides can look forward to a couple hours of fun, laughs and games with their friends. Everything is very tastefully and respectfully done. This is the time for the bride to sit back and let someone else do all the work! I like to have the opportunity to meet with the bride to be and find out exactly what she wants from the party. With being an experienced Pure Romance consultant, I have gathered a lot of information along the way to make this an experience the bride will remember for years to come. Some brides prefer to do a relaxed party with a 'pajama party', some host a 'little black dress party' with wine and chocolate, some get all prettied up for a limo ride after the party. Whatever the bride decides on, it's sure to be a great night after a Pure Romance by Michelle Wyatt Coonen!

Why we love The Notebook

The Notebook, based on the novel be Nicholas Sparks, debuted in 2004 staring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. It’s one of those movies that you just have to see and if you have yet to see this film you are truly missing out. The Notebook is about our favorite topic, l-o-v-e. The connection between the couple in this movie was undeniable and something that many of us fantasize about. There are tons of reasons why we absolutely adore The Notebook, but here are our top three.

1. Real Love

Noah and Allie were madly in love. Throughout the film, their love for one another grew and their bond was so close that nothing could come between them. Noah looked at Allie as if the entire world revolved around her and Allie was in love with everything about her relationship with Noah. This is what we all dream of one day finding, that one person who means the world to us. Everyone wants to find that one person in the world that understands and makes you feel complete. The characters in this film had that and more and for those of us who have yet to find that companion, it’s nice to see it exist in this film.

2. What is Meant to be Will Be

Every relationship goes through it’s ups and downs and Noah and Allie were no exception. Despite their obstacles, they still found a way to stay close. I’m sure many of you wonder if the one that got a way will ever return, or if you will one day rekindle an old flame. But this film shows us that whatever is meant to me will be. No matter what your current relationship situation is, go with the flow. Take everything easy and let things happen naturally. The key is to remember to stay true to ourselves first and foremost and let everything else fall into place. You will know if you’re with “the one” and if you haven’t figured it out yet, don’t worry....that person will find you eventually. Love is patient.

3. Happily Ever After

We’ve all seen movies that end like a fairytale but never like this. In an attempt not to spoil it for the people who have never seen The Notebook, just remember to keep tissues nearby. A lot of people enjoy happily ever afters and some do not. People who are indifferent towards happily ever afters may feel that way because the odds are slim to none. Think about it, how many “happily ever after” stories do you know that weren’t featured on the big screen? But after getting so wrapped up into this film, trust me, it won’t even matter. You will find yourself in love with the idea of love as well as this beautiful movie.

The Notebook is all about eternal love and reminds of how beautiful it is to be passionately in love with someone. Everything about the film made it simply magical, from the acting to the scenery and the fact that Ryan Gosling is one fine man. If you’re a fan of The Notebook, make it a movie this weekend! If you’re seen it before, maybe watch it with your boyfriend but remind him that it’s okay to cry. Ladies if you’re spending time with your girls this weekend, make it a girls night and keep those tissues handy. :-)

Q: How would you describe your overall style of baking and decorating?

A: Very artistic, that's my background!

Q: What do you like most about Weddings?

A: I love the romance, its such a wonderful time in a bride and grooms life, they are so in love

and it just takes my breath away when I can make a wonderful, artistic, fun, beautiful, amazing cake or cupcakes for them!

Q: Why did you get into wedding cakes?

A: Again I love the story each wedding tells and what better way to tell the story then with cake! So that's why I got into making them and its a great medium for me to work with!

Q: What is the best advice you would give to Brides planning there 2012 wedding?

A: Make sure you have a tasting and find out about all the hidden expenses. And make sure you love the design and overall concept or change it!!!

I'm actually an artist before a baker so I really enjoy the different designs and ideas the brides come up with. Its so much fun to hear their designs and be able to make it possible with cake!

It is still true, that no one should outshine the bride on her day, the bridesmaids do not have to be punished anymore with unsightly fashion. Remember when you look back on your pictures, you do not want to wonder what it was you were thinking about for picking the dresses you have. A lot of gowns are also geared towards multiple wears, so that a bridesmaid can wear it beyond the wedding. Remember, if you can't come up with a great color, you can always do a cute black dress and accessorize with your shoes, flowers, and jewelry in the colors of your wedding.

Q: From your website, we definitely see your passion for photography. Please give us a brief history of how you got in this industry.

A: My husband and I were married in 2001, and couldn't afford a photographer. We decided to purchase a DSLR camera and have a friend shoot our wedding. My husband, Jason, had prior knowledge of film cameras, and taught us both how to use the DSLR, as they were pretty new to the industry in 2001. We traveled a lot, took lots of nature pics, and started selling stock photography and doing photo restoration as well. In 2005, friends of ours were getting married and asked us to photograph their wedding. We were excited, but nervous, and so I took a quick wedding photography course to learn as much as I could. For months I studied every wedding magazine, other websites that I admired, trying to just to do the best we could. Still not knowing this would be something I would love, I wanted to do the best job possible for them. The photos were definitely not the best, as it was our first wedding, but our friends loved them and seeing their excitement got me excited! That was really the turning point for me. I no longer wanted to do stock photography or photo restoration, I wanted to focus solely on weddings and portraits. I spent the next few yrs learning everything I could and starting our business from scratch. I did several weddings and photo sessions for free, learning and building my portfolio. I went from 5-6 weddings a year in 2007/2008 to close to 30 weddings a year for 2011.

Q: How would you describe your overall style of photography?

A: I would describe our overall style as journalistic or documentary. I like to photograph things happening naturally. I love vivid colors, antique/vintage style, and anything that shows emotion. I want people to look back at their photos and feel that emotion, whether it's a smile, a laugh or maybe even a few tears.

Q: What do you like most about Weddings?
What do I like most about weddings? Wow, that's a tough one because there are SO many things I love about weddings. Everything really. I get so excited to be a part of each and every wedding we do. From our first meeting with the bride & groom, I am anxious to meet them, learn about them as a couple, and just hear their story. I have to say I also get excited to see the Brides dress and shoes! The couples first dance always gets me a little teary, and I always love seeing the grandparents joining in when the "cha-cha slide" starts to play

Q: Why did you get into weddings?
I got into weddings because I just love them. No two are alike, and from the very first wedding I shot 6 years ago, I knew I had to do more!

Q: What is the best advice you would give to Brides planning there 2012 wedding?
The best advice I would give to Brides planning their wedding is to do your research and know who you are hiring! Read the reviews online, ask for references, see lots of work they've done, and meet your vendors to make sure you "click".

Also, early planning is always best!

Q. Anything you would like to add?
I would just like to mention that when I shoot a wedding, more than my time and knowledge goes into it. I put my heart into it, and photograph each wedding as it were my own. I feel that after shooting over 140 weddings, and hundreds of portrait sessions, we have the knowledge and skills to give you the absolute best photographs possible. As we end our dress week, we're going to look at the color of wedding gowns. Depending on your culture, and religion, that normally dictates the color of your dress. In the Western Culture, people tend to think that women normally wear white or ivory gowns. According to www.fromtimespast.com

White has long been accepted as the traditional color of the wedding dress, but wedding gowns were not always white. The marriage of Queen Victoria to her cousin Albert of Saxe- Coburg in 1840 has had more influence on weddings than any other. Queen Victoria put the wheels in motion by marrying in white. Though brides continued to wed in gowns of different colors, white was now set as the color of choice for weddings and has continued ever since. In Godey’s Lady’s Book, 1849, this statement was printed: “ Custom has decided, from the earliest ages, that white is the most fitting hue, whatever may be the material. It is an emblem of the purity and innocence of girlhood, and the unsullied heart she now yields to the chosen one.”

Remember there are also different lines for different body types, ie petit, plus size, tall, even though the guide might not recommend it for your type, feel free to go try one on in the pseciality section!

Types of Wedding Gown Silhouette

Even though there are several variations on gown silhouettes, there are only five basic ones.

A-line from Maggie Sottero

A-line. This is the most popular silhouette. It is universally flattering and come with many shapes from subtle, modified A-line to full circle silhouette. The top of the dress gracefully hug the natural curves of your upper body and then it flares out into an “A” shape as it falls. It can be designed to be worn at a backyard pot-luck celebration or at the most formal ballroom reception.

Sheath from Mori Lee

Sheath. This silhouette is favored by brides who do not what bulky wedding gowns and have the body type for it. It either contours the body from top to bottom, closely following the line of the body (called constructed sheaths) or falls nearly straight down from the shoulders to hem (called soft sheaths), like a Grecian column. It adds height to a petite bride and is quite flattering for a tall bride with a thin frame.

Ball-Gown by Amalia Carrara

Ball-gown. The ball gown silhouette is similar to the A-Line; only it has a much fuller skirt that flows to the floor. There are “flat-front ball gowns,” which have skirts that are smooth and seamless in front and fully pleated in the back or a dropped-waist ball gown, where the bodice is fitted through the hips. This gown is good for tall brides with narrow hips. Petite brides should avoid this silhouette because they may look like they are lost in it.

Trumpet by Moncheri

Trumpet or Mermaid. These are form-fitting silhouettes that flare to the floor usually from the knee (mermaid silhouette) or mid-thigh (trumpet silhouette). They are perfect for brides who have hour-glass body type and tall brides. Not recommended for petite brides, those with pear-shaped body or plus-sized

Empire by Maggie Sottero

Empire. The Empire silhouette has a high waist look, often with a seam under the bust line and typically a slimmer skirt. This style is good for petite brides because the gentle blending of the waist into a flared skirt often provides a long and lean silhouette.

Ruching

Ruching is when the fabric of the bodice is gathered lengthways. It can cover the whole bodice or just part of it.

It’s a good effect to balance out wide hips and a small bust but if you have a big bust and midriff it’s a style that might not suit.

Corset

A tight boned bodice that’s really figure-hugging and great at enhancing your waist and bust. It laces up at the back and this can be a beautiful detail in itself. The only thing to remember is not to pull the laces too tight.

Insert

An insert is basically just a piece of material that sits in a deep V in the neckline, although it can be put in to side panels too. Often the fabric of the insert is a contrasting texture to the main bodice, but not always.

Keyhole

A fitted bodice with a wedge or keyhole-shape cut out in the front. This can be quite a deep cut-out or a small cut-out just around the neck. It’s a good bodice if you have a small bust.

Crumb catcher

A piece of fabric across the bust creates a layered effect. The fabric can match the dress or be completely contrasting. It can be fitted close to the body or a bit looser – the key thing to remember is that it can accentuate a large bust.

Boned bodices

A traditional style of bodice this has vertical supports made of either plastic or metal – a bit like underwire in a bra. This boning makes the bodice really structured and fitted – it is great for defining and pulling in your shape.

Overlay

The bodice is covered in a piece of fabric, often sheer or patterned. This is a lovely effect that adds a touch of simple elegance – and can hide a big midriff.

	Asymmetric This neckline works with a single strap coming across the front (either from the left or right shoulder) and is a very unique style requiring specific taste. 	Bateau This wide top follows the natural curve of your collarbone and is a basic neckline selection. The front and back neck areas are equally and minimally exposed and works well to naturally enhance the chest area (so avoid if you are already well endowed).

	Halter Top The neckline is down away with in favor of straps that wrap around the back of the neck. This leaves the shoulders and arms bare. Good to use if you are tall and have broad shoulders, otherwise avoid if you have narrow shoulders or are very well endowed.

	Jewel Jewel necklines follow the curvature of the neck. This neckline works well for women whom want to enhance their chest areas, though a neckline to avoid if you are already well-endowed.

	Off-the-Shoulder As the name suggests, this neckline sits off the should, below them actually, and accentuates the collarbone and shoulders equally. This is generally a safe neckline selection and works well if you are already well-endowed and/or have a pear-shaped body. You should avoid it is you already have broad shoulders and/or full arms as this neckline would only work to accentuate them further.

	Portrait Follows the same concept as the Off the Shoulder neckline mentioned previously. The difference here being that a scoop is provided to frame the shoulders and collarbone. A safe selection if you have full arms and prominent collarbones, as this selection will work with them but avoid if your collarbones are hard to see.

	Queen Anne The Queen Anne sits high on the back of the neck and opens along the lower front of the chest, across the front of the neck. Works well for most body types and can help to elongate a figure or display a discreet amount of cleavage. Styles abound with this type - pictured is our favorite (vavoom!).

	Scoop The scoop is just that, a downward scooping, U-shaped neckline design. Works well for most body types and is the best choice among dress designs that are "basic" in most every respect. The scoop can stay up high for modesty or come down low for a bit ore excitement.

	Square As the name suggests, the square neckline fits the shape of half of a full square. Works well for women that are already well-endowed without revealing too much cleavage and a good selection for most general body types.

	Strapless Strapless gown designs feature neither sleeves nor straps. Works well if you are already well-endowed and/or are blessed with rather beautiful shoulders and noticeable collarbones but you will want to avoid this neckline if you are rather small-chested.

	Sweetheart This neckline forms a type of heart shape at the bust line. This may or may not be strapless depending on the designer of your dress but works well in accentuating cleavage and if your are already well-endowed.

	V-Neck A flattering neckline that showcases various body types. The plunge of the V varies depending on the dress designer and works well if you have a chest size of a B or C-cup so avoid if you are an A or over a C-cup size. Works well for full figured women or those possessing the hour glass body shape.

What are some tips you would pass on to those getting married?

Know what you are getting into financially AHEAD of time. Do not walk down the aisle blind to the financial condition of your intended mate! Get copies of credit reports and sit down and discuss your financial health. Discuss the debt items that should be eliminated before the wedding.

Review the last two years tax returns together. Find out if there are any arrears owed to the IRS or state department of taxation for any states they have lived in. And then develop a plan for eliminating that debt.

Discuss a prenuptial agreement! There is nothing wrong with protecting assets you earned. This is especially true when marrying later in life.

Find out your fiancés approach to money management. Are they a spender or a saver? Do they give away lots of “loans” to friends and family members? Do they have child support they pay or are behind on? These are all important factors.

It is critical to put a household budget in place BEFORE the wedding. Set ground rules, agree on goals and have a flexible plan that works for both of you. Part of that planning includes determining if you will have joint or separate accounts or both. You also need to decide if you will have shared credit cards or separate.

Remember, you have to live after the wedding. DO NOT spend all of your savings on ONE day. You should have a wedding based on a reasonable budget. Sit down with your fiancé and decide on a wedding budget and stick to it.

What are your suggestions on finances after the wedding?

Continue to work on finances together. Both partners need to be well-informed about what is going on financially.Talk about spending or saving habits that are popping up that are destructive to the budget and potentially to the relationship. Do not delay; talk about them when they occur. Putting off needed conversations makes the problems worse.

Here we are, one of our favorite blogs, it's Thirsty Thursday. Thank you to our awesome new Event Coordinator, Amber Timberlake, for coming up with the delicious cocktail and mocktail!!

Pear Lemon Fizz

Ice cubes

1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) pear vodka

3/4 ounce (4 1/2 teaspoons) Lemon Verbena Simple Syrup

1/2 ounce (1 tablespoon) fresh lemon juice

Champagne, for topping off (about 1/2 cup)

1 fresh lemon verbena leaf, for garnish

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka, syrup, and lemon juice. Shake, and then strain into a glass. Top off with Champagne. Garnish with lemon verbena.

Cinderella

Ingredients:

1 oz lemon juice

1 oz orange juice

1 oz pineapple juice

2 oz Ginger Ale

Dash of Grenadine

Pineapple and orange slices for garnish

The taste of tropical fruit comes to life in this refreshing mocktail. If you’d like a more elegant looking Cinderella, cut all of the juices and ginger ale in half and serve it in a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with both pineapple and orange slices, and don’t forget that little paper umbrella for an extra finishing touch.

Another set of great, refreshing beverages that you can use to spice up your event, and also help to save on bar expenses! Enjoy responsibly!

That Dreaded "B" Word...Budget

Your wedding budget dictates almost every aspect of your wedding. So much so, most wedding planner’s first question is “what is your budget.” We know that without this magical number nothing can be done. Although the ‘B’ word is often misconstrued as a naughty word, it can actually be your best friend and is pretty easy to figure out.

There are some brides who have families that are willing to take out second mortgages just to present their daughter with her fairy tale wedding. Other couples rely on their own bank accounts for their wedding. However much you have to spend, big or small, it is imperative that you have a number to work with. Each vendor you hire has a high end price, as well as a low end. With a budget you can establish an amount you want to spend on each service, and which ones you want to splurge on.

Having a budget, even a rough estimate of one, can make it easier for you to negotiate prices. If you know what you want to spend on, for example, your wedding cake, and you know what the average cost is for what you want, then you can make sure the vendor understands as well what you are not willing to pay. It also allows your planner to know which vendors to suggest to you. Why fall in love with a vendor, who ends up being beyond your acceptable limit, and then you are left with a feeling of settling.

It’s pretty easy to come up with a budget. One way is to write down all of the big elements of your wedding (i.e. catering, dress, flowers, venue, etc.) and guesstimate a number that you would be willing to spend on each item. Add all of those numbers together plus about 10% more for all of those little things that you probably forgot and there’s your budget! You’re planner is a great source also, and should be able to provide you with a great template, as well as inform you of certain etiquette associated with it.

Our alcoholic beverage is:
Blushing Bride

1 oz of peach schnapps
1 oz of grenadine
4 oz of champagne

Pour the peach schnapps and grenadine into a champagne flute. Top off with champagne.

To garnish, you can add a raspberry or strawberry to the flute.

So classy and refreshing and sweet!

Our non-alcoholic beverage is:

Shirley Temple
6 oz ginger ale
1.5 tsp grenadine
Garnish with a marschino cherry or orange peel or a little umbrella

Pour ginger ale over crushed ice, top with grenadine, garnish, and serve. For a Roy Rogers (another classic mocktail, named for the 1940s cowboy actor), substitute caffeine-free cola for the ginger ale

Finding the one...the Dress

The right wedding gown can make or break your wedding in several ways; if it's uncomfortable it will show on your face, if it's the wrong cut it can be soo unflattering on you and so on. But when you find the right dress, you exude the confidence, warmth, charisma, charm and beauty that only a bride can.

Your wedding dress shopping experience should be a very memorable one. When you go shopping for your dress it is very important to bring the right crew with you. This is very important because it can make or break your wedding dress shopping experience.

You've seen the shows, and you've seen how just one person can take one of the most memorable experiences in your life and make it one of the worse.

Here are some tips to ensure your most significant dress purchase is an awesome one:

1. Select people who know you and know what you want.

2. Leave the "me" people at home, the ones who only think about them and want you to buy their dream dress and not yours.

3. Be open to suggestions from the bridal consultant. They are professionals and should know what works well for you.

4. Know your budget.

5. Do not try on dresses more than your budget unless you are willing to pay for it. Why fall in love with a dress that does not fall in your budget, every dress after that will be a disappointment and you will feel as if you are settling for any other dress.

6. Bring the proper undergarments.

7. Make sure you have the shoe height that you want to wear when

trying on the dress.

8. Do not feel pressured by anyone, including the sale person or someone from your dress crew.

9. When you narrow your dresses down, try them on with the full look, the veil, jewelry, etc.

10. When you found the right dress you know, be it goose bumps, tears, or a never ending smile. You just know when you found the right one.

It's hot outside, so let's go with something refreshing and light.

Our alcoholic beverage is:
Wild Hibiscus Mojito

1 oz peppermint leaf and lime zest
1 oz gold rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz syrup from Wild Hibiscus flower in syrup
3 Wild Hibiscus Flowers
3 peppermint sprigs
4 oz fresh charged filtered water
Peppermint stem inserted through an inside-out hibiscus flower as garnish

Muddle wild hibiscus flowers and peppermint in a tall glass, and then add infused light rum, lime juice and syrup. Next, fill with ice and stir. Fill with fresh charged filtered water and float gold rum. Add garnish.

*Infused light rum

Pour a bottle of light rum into a wide-mouthed container. Add 1 cup of fresh, clean peppermint leaves and the zest from three Persian limes, then tighten lid. Allow the rum to sit in a dark place for three days, agitating daily. Strain through cheesecloth and funnel back into a sterilized bottle.

A great take on a classic refreshing drink. An awesome spin on the mojito!

Our non-alcoholic beverage is:

2 oz orange juice

2 oz of pineapple juice

1 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz of sugar syrup

1 oz of soda water

Shake and strain into an ice filled glass and add soda. You can garnish with a lemon peel swirl.

If your event is in the summer time, remember pick drinks that will not be too heavy and cause your guests discomfort. Light, refreshing fruity drinks not only quenches thirsts, but will give people more energy to continue to party!

A signature drink is a great way to personalize your wedding or event. It can be a favorite of you and your fiance, paying homage to someone, or you just like the color or the way it tastes. A signature drink can also cut down on your bar costs if the bar budget is a possible issue. Serve beer and wine and your signature drink or drinks.

Each Thursday, we will be blogging about both an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks you might want to consider for your day. Let us know if you have any suggestions!

Our inaugural alcoholic beverage is the:

Kiss on the Lips - a sweet frozen drink

Ingredients: Peach Schnapps, Frozen Mango Mix & Grenadine Syrup

1 - 1 1/2 oz peach schnapps
4 - 6 oz frozen mango mix
1 tbsp grenadine syrup

The mango mix should be blended with crushed ice firstly with the schnapps. Pour the schnapps and mango mix into a cocktail glass with the grenadine already placed at the bottom.

Sweet, fruity and frozen, this is a great drink for a summer wedding.

Our inaugural non-alcoholic beverage is the:

Cranberry Punch - a sweet, yet tart, refreshing drink

Ingredients: cranberry juice, sugar, pineapple juice, almond extract and ginger ale.

4 cups cranberry juice
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 cups pineapple juice
1 tbsp almond extract
2 qt ginger ale

Combine first four ingredients. Stir until sugar is dissolved, chill. Then add ginger ale just before serving. Add ice ring to keep punch cold.

This refreshing drink can be garnished in so many different ways, a cute orange peel, lemon or lime zest or with whole cranberries.

It's shopping time! You are selecting the attire for your wedding - you have your gown, you’ve picked the colors of your wedding and you have your bridesmaids gowns. Now, to add the icing on the cake, no not the veil, but your shoes!

There are so many beautiful shoes to choose from, wedge heels, kitten heels, flats, stilettos, flip flops, sneakers. Do you pick shoes with glitter, rhinestones, buckles, bows, ribbons, ruffles? Have you considered throwing in the element of surprise and going with a shoe in one of your wedding colors or in your grooms favorite color? When a photographer gives you their shot list, it normally includes pictures of the brides shoes. Bring in your individual style with your shoes. Since we began planning weddings, EGE has probably had 3 brides who wore "traditional" wedding shoes. By going with your non-traditional shoe, you can always use them again with that cute black dress in your closet. Take it a step further and add your monogram or wedding date on the sole.

So bring in your individual style and flair by selecting the right shoe for you! Don't forget to compliment those perfect shoes with a perfect pedicure. Wear your wedding shoes around the house a bit before the wedding to break them in. You've invested a lot in your pictures, you don't want your photographer to charge you extra for airbrushing that frown or grimace off of your face because you decided to wait for your wedding day to break in your shoes! Q: From your experience as a florist, how has the business changed?

A: Today's bride is focused on creating an inviting experience for her guests. Brides seem to be aware of how the Economy has affected their families and couples want to give them one day to forget about the real

world and celebrate in style. Lighting and lounge spaces have been one of the most requested additions. The lighting adds a warm glow to their event and the lounge gives friends and family a place to relax, enjoy a drink while taking in the beautiful wedding reception that they are part of.

Q: How did you get into the industry, what or who gave you your start?

A: I got my start in the wedding industry years ago. I loved weddings and wanted weddings to be my career. When I could not find a position that fit my needs and passion I started my own wedding business. The rest is

history.

Q: When arranging floral designs for weddings and events, what do you look

for to capture the "Look" your clientele desires?

A: I first look at the style of the venue she selected. This says a lot about the bride. From there I ask the bride to bring in inspiration photos. Bride's always seem to have a stack of wedding magazines on hand with

fabulous photos of exciting flowers. Finally, I take a moment to make note of the bride's attire for another ok into her personal style.

Q: As a business woman, what keeps you inspired to soar to greater heights

in this industry?

A: Being allowed to use my creativity to create new looks for a client is truly inspiring. I LOVE when a bride comes to my studio with a few ideasand looks to me to create a breath taking event. This allows me to really

dig deep and come up with designs that have not yet been featured on the pages of the wedding magazines.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: The very best part of my job is revealing a ballroom to our couples. After spending months designing a wedding it is thrilling to stand with our brides as they take in our work.

Q: For upcoming Spring weddings what floral arrangements would you suggest

for Brides?

A: Arrangements full of lavish Peony in shades of pink is my suggestion for spring brides. The Peony is by far the most requested wedding flower, however, it is only in season and affordable from mid April to late May.

Pink peonies and roses dominated Kate's romantic, hand-tied bouquet, which was accented with a pearl-embellished wrap. The reception tables were topped with elegant centerpieces set into a variety of silver containers. Q: Referring to the Exquisite Gems Events upcoming event, what are you

looking forward to working with the Bridal Hunt?

A: As I have never participated in an event like this I am looking forward to the experience. This seems like an event that brides will have a lot of fun with.

Q: What is your favorite Flower?

A: Wow, you are asking me to pick just one flower. As a professional designer I love all kinds of flowers. However, my personal favorite is the Dendrobium Orchid. This Orchid comes in great colors, holds up well without water and adds a high end look at an affordable cost.

Q: From your website, we definitely see your passion for photography. Please give us a brief history of how you got in this industry.

After many years of working as a public relations and marketing specialist for various companies, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my 9-to-5 job, in 2001, to pursue a career as a professional photographer. Although I had been a serious amateur photographer for years, I wasn't sure if I could turn my passion for photography into a profitable business. I began my formal education in photography as a student of the New York Institute of Photography and followed-up my photography education with hands-on training at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) - and later at the Washington School of Photography. In 2002, I launched Artist Touch Photography, by Tuesday Ferguson, a professional photography studio -- specializing in social event, wedding, and portrait photography. Today, our studio features top quality portrait lighting and photography equipment, modern computers, and cutting-edge graphics design programs. My staff now includes three top-notch photographers, including me as the lead photographer. We are a full service photography company offering a variety of wedding albums, portrait packages, and album designs.

Q: How would you describe your overall style of photography?

I like to describe my photography style as "modern, authentic, creative, photojournalism, with traditional photography at its core." In other words, we strive to capture the candid, "in-the-moment-images," while at the same time, provide the classic look and feel that is the hallmark of traditional portraiture.

Q: What do you like most about Weddings?

I am such a romantic. So, I have to say that capturing the chemistry and love between the bride & groom always inspires me. When I capture that ... emotion...that magic ... in a photograph, I know I have done my job and that makes me feel great. Weddings are one of the few events where you can feel, and through the artistry of photography, capture that once in a life-time moment between the bride and groom. I like knowing that I can be a part of documenting something so magical and special. I take this responsibility very seriously and I feel honored whenever Artist Touch Photography is asked to be a part of such a sacred occasion.

Q: Why did you get into weddings?

I, like many women, dreamt about my wedding day ever since I was a child. As a young adult, I fantasized about photographing that fairytale "Cinderella" style wedding. So, when I became a professional photographer, wedding photography was at the top of my list. Since then, I have had the opportunity to photograph many fairytale weddings and other special events. So, dreams really do come true.

Q: Referring to the Exquisite Gems Events upcoming event, what are you looking forward to working with the Bridal Hunt?

I am super excited about being part of the Amazing Bridal Hunt. From the moment that I heard about the event, I was immediately interested in being part of it. I am looking forward to meeting the future brides who participate in the event, and capturing some amazing pictures of the "Amazing Bridal Hunt."

Q: What is the best advice you would give to Brides planning there 2010 wedding?

The best advice I can offer to brides is to partner with an experienced and creative event planning company, like Exquisite Gems Events. I have witnessed several weddings, full of promise and anticipation, turn into disappointments and flat-out embarrassments because of poor planning and inadequate coordination. Your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life. Don't leave the planning or the photography to amateurs. I would tell them to invest in professionals who understand what you want and know how to deliver it.

Believe it or not Thanksgiving is over and the Holiday season is in total in effect. The spirit of giving and thankfulness has filled the air. Exquisite Gems Events is especially grateful and excited to share with our blog family, one of our most recent wedding celebrations! What made your wedding Exquisite?

The incredible sense of peace, joy, and deep satisfaction that Kori and I both felt throughout our entire wedding weekend! From the rehearsal & dinner the night before through the ceremony and reception the next day, we absolutely floated from being so happy! It was amazing to see the outward physical manifestation of all the love we felt for each other and from our beautiful 'Ohana. We were deeply moved by the entire experience. Having Robyn and Brandy and their support team working on our behalf to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible played a huge role in allowing us to simply enjoy our day! We didn't worry about a single thing. The beautiful weather, our breathtaking ceremony, and having such fun from start to finish was what made our wedding truly exquisite.

What is your best piece of advice for brides planning their wedding day?

In the end, what matters most and what you will remember most is how you felt on that day. The feelings of peace, stress, joy, or dismay that you or your loved ones felt are what linger on in your memory. Decide now that you will have peace & joy! Schedule massages for yourself and your soon-to-be hubby during the planning process! It's so important to take good care of yourself throughout the process.There's more than one way to have a wedding! Let your creativity flow!

Personalizing Your Wedding

Your wedding day is a special day for you and your spouse to be. Be sure to include in your day elements that represent the two of you and your new lives together. We always recommend to our couples to think "outside of the box," when coming up with the unique elements. For example, you both love dogs, instead of favors, do a donation in your guests' names to a local animal rescue. Or if you both love Mojito's, you can have your caterer serve Mojito's as a signature drink and give it a snappy name.

One of our couples, the groom was a Naval Academy graduate and the bride become the number 1 fan of the football team there. For their wedding, the groom used his sword to cut the cake and their custom wedding programs had a picture of the team's mascot Bill the Goat.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what you can do to bring in your style to your wedding to set it apart from anyone else's. Remember, just do a little thinking "outside of the box" and you will be sure to come up with some great ideas!!!
